• Originally the population in Australia consisted of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people followed by British and Irish settlers. Following World War II there was migration from Europe (including people from Greece, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Lebanon and Turkey).
• In more recent times, there has been migration from Asia and Africa as well as other parts of the world.
• Australia is now a multicultural country which is reflected in the diverse range of cuisines, faiths and festivals.
