Mexico is also known for having the largest proven silver reserves in the world, and for also having the tenth largest oil reserves. Mexico and United States are also trading partners. However, Mexico is also the country with the second highest degree of economic disparity between the rich and the poor. The constitution has undergone multiple amendments such as the 2005 amendment which banned the use of capital punishment. Mexico has a federal presidential representative democratic republic and the government is congressional. Mexico runs on a president who is head of state and head of the multi-party government. The president is elected by plurality vote for a six-year term and there is no second round. The Chamber of Deputies has 500 members, elected for a three-year term; 300 elected by simple majority in single-member districts, and 200 elected by proportional representation in five 40-member regional districts. The Senate has 128 members, elected for a six-year term. The three level of government for Mexico include federal, state, and municipal government. Since Mexico City is the capital of Mexico it also holds the seat of the federal powers of the Mexican Union. Mexico City is different from all the other 31 one Mexican states because it belongs to the federation. Each State gets to elects its own governor and legislature and municipal authorities are chosen at the local level. Each state also gets to elect three senators, and in addition 32 are elected by proportional representation on a single nation
