Methylparaben: This chemical is used to preserve food and cosmetics by acting as an anti-bacterial agent and helping extend the lifespan of products. However, researchers have suggested that methylparabens may increase the risk of breast cancer, or accelerate the growth of tumors. The chemical does this by mimicking the effects of estrogen in the human body. In addition, skin treated with creams that contain methylparaben can be damaged when exposed to the sun. Similarly, eye drops that contain methylparaben have the potential to damage the lining of the eyes and cornea.

The dopaminergic pathways of the brain are composed of neurons that synthesize and transmit the neurotransmitter dopamine, to different regions of the brain. Dopamine signaling from these pathways is associated with several integral cognitive processes including reward-motivated behavior, motor…

Although pesticides are commonly used in Canada for vegetable and fruit fields, several of them contain mutagenic properties such as gene mutation and DNA damage (Ahmadi 2011). At high concentrations some pesticides can increase incidence of cancer, suppression of the immune system, and neurological disorders (Ahmadi 2011). Pesticides bind with DNA through the grooves of the double helix, which in turn causes hydrophobic interactions between the pesticide and either the groove or wall of DNA (Ahmadi 2011). Pesticides bind covalently to DNA forming DNA adducts which increase the probability for mutations during replication (Ahmadi 2011).…

Acrylate, as acryl-CoA, is an intermediate in the non-randomising pathway, and is reduced to propionate. The randomising pathway is the major propionate synthesis pathway from glucose (Baldwin et al. 1963).…
