Ceramics brakes barriers that other art forms do not. It is useful art, something beautiful and yet, still used in everyday life. It can also communicate what is inside or what a cup is used for and why it is needed. There are always distinctions in what is appropriate for a table setting. The plates that are used every meal will be very different from those used for holidays or special guests. This is true for the ceramic cup, it has an artistic touch as well as a function.
This is also true for glass, fibers, and woods because they serve a purpose they are not thought of as art. A basket or a table are not held to the same degree as a painting or a sculpture, this is because the painting and the sculpture are pure art the serve no other purpose.
