1. The general topic of this book is Machiavelli’s view of how to aquire and maintain power. It also gives his ideas of how and why the Italian government isn’t doing well.
2. In the book The Prince, Machiavelli doesn’t realy use characters as in a novel; instead, he uses political leaders as characters. Some of those characters are:

This is because they are the citizens of whoever they are fighting for.
-The last type is mixed troops which is made of mercenaries, auxiliaries, and native troops. This is still good, but not as desirable as all native.
Character of the Prince:
-Machiavelli has made up a lot of rules for a recommended prince. Two of those things are that it’s better to be stingy than generous and it’s better to be cruel than merciful.
-Another rule is that it’s better to break a promise than to keep a promise if it’s against someone’s interest.
-One of the most important rule is that princes have to avoid being hated by the people. This is because that this is better than any defense.
-Another rule for a prince is that they should do projects to make their reputation better.
-The last rule for a prince is that they should avoid flatterers and choose wise advisors.
Italy Political Situation:
-One thing Machiavelli points out is that the rulers of Italy lost their states by not following his military principals.
-Another thing he points out is that fortune controls about half of human affairs, but free will controls the other half. This means that the prince is free to act, but most princes can’t adapt their actions to the
