Character Analysis of Macbeth Throughout the play, the character Macbeth displays many different traits. He can be seen as either a corrupted hero or a self-doubting villain. Initially, he is seen as a brave warrior who fights for his country and his king. However, after receiving the witches' prophecy, he starts to become ambitious in order to become king and to protect his throne. This leads to him turning reckless as he believes he is invincible due to his misunderstanding of the prophecy. Macbeth is willing to murder anyone who gets in his way but is unable to deal with the guilt and consequences. Firstly, in the beginning of the play, Macbeth is described as noble and courageous. Macbeth says that he will start following up on his decisions immediately. He has no justification for killing Macduff's family; he just does it because the thought came into his mind. This action leads to Macduff wanting revenge, and eventually he is the one to kill Macbeth. In the final act, Macbeth tells his armour-bearer to remove his armour because he feels like he doesn't need it. "Pull't off, I say… Bring it after me. I will not be afraid of death and bane, Til Birnam forest come to Dunsinane." (V.III.61,67-69). He is feeling overconfident because of the apparition telling him that he will be safe until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane. For these reasons, Macbeth's character is reckless. In conclusion, the character Macbeth is brave, ambitious, and reckless. He was initially a brave warrior on the battlefield. The witches sparked his ambition to become king and his wife convinced him to murder King Duncan when he had his doubts. Once he had the throne, he murdered anyone who he saw as a threat.
