What is life without culture? I strongly believe that our culture shapes us into who we are and influences the numerous decisions we make throughout our life. There are many different traditions and beliefs that are affiliated with every culture. My parents are both immigrants who were born and raised in Afghanistan. They moved here about 25 years ago escaping the war leaving everything behind except there culture. Being raised in a more conservative household compared to the typical “American” household due to my Afghan culture has both pros and cons. My Afghan culture keeps me disciplined. I believe that my culture has been very beneficial and has enriched my understanding in all aspects of life because I don’t see everything in black and white I see it from many different perspectives and standpoints.
I am a former part time running start student and I have faced many challenges and struggled to manage high school, college, work and family. However I got through it all and did pretty well academically and financially. I worked hard throughout my academic history up to date; I’ve managed to get on the vice presidents honor roll at Highline College, graduate Thomas Jefferson High School with honors and earn my …show more content…
That reason is my parents. My parents went through so much to escape the tragic war. They left everything behind and came here for a second chance. My mother came here and had to work almost immediately, she didn’t even have the chance to pursue an academic career. Imagine being 16 years old coming to a different country with your mother and brother, not knowing or understanding the language or culture and having to work to make a living. That’s tough. Well, that was my mother’s situation, rain or shine my mother had to walk 4 miles to the sewing factory to work her daily 8-10 hour
