On the other hand, Ben and her life with him was an experience that left a very positive mark on her life, and allowed Laura to fully move on from her past. Ben was the first person that Laura had met when she first arrived in Cedar Falls, and even though their first meeting did not go very well, he was able to slowly gain her trust and she was truly able to open up to him. Without the impact that Ben had on Laura’s life she may never have been able to truly feel safe again. He was also one of the main reasons that she had been able to see her mother again. Rona Maynard indirectly characterizes Laura as selfish and hypocritical through her words, thoughts, and actions. As Laura walks into school and hears the populars saying, “It’ll be a riot!” Laura immediately assumes that they were talking about her and goes on defense, thinking, “They were clods, the whole lot of them.” When she realizes that they were planning on picking on Rachel, she doesn't care about the teasing anymore. She is also characterized as selfish because at the end of the story, she chooses to partake in the bullying of somebody who considered her a friend rather than reject the card the Diane offers her and become an outcast.…

Both of these books have the common idea of the house, or a spirit in the house, being an important part of the story, even though it is not necessarily in the category of antagonist or protagonist. Today, I will compare two books with many differences and make a verdict on which is better in my opinion.…

One poignant moment in Doerries’s report of his relationship with Laura that supports the claim that is made on page fifty-five in his description of the events after Laura’s passing. The Athenians were hell bent on proving that there is beauty within the struggle. Through death and darkness, they were able to still come together as a community and as a united front. They were attempting to show that with death came strong companionship, hope, and mercy. Doerries came to this realization after Laura’s passing.…

Although the Carpenter does not eat as many oysters than the Walrus, as Tweedledee points out to Alice, I placed him at the lowest end of the axis because of what he eats. While the other characters on this list are either addicted to food or drugs, the Carpenter eats an excess of living creatures, mixing murder into his gluttony. While eating oysters is hardly seen as a sin, the oysters in this poem can walk, talk, and communicate with the Carpenter and the Walrus, giving the Carpenter’s and Walrus’ gluttony a cannibalistic quality that the other characters lack. Further, although the Walrus feels guilty for eating the oysters (but as Tweedledee points out, this could be an act so the Carpenter doesn’t realize he’s eaten more oysters) the…
