Summary Of Piaget's Theory Of Moral Development

The person that I decided to do my moral research paper on is Hannah P. (my wife’s best friends daughter). She is a 17-year-old Latina girl who comes from a family middle class family; furthermore, the parents have been divorced for about seven years but her father still plays a big part of her life. He spends quality time with her and her older brother Sam, who is 18-years-old. Both parents are very catholic and they have instilled their religious beliefs in their children as they raised them. Hannah’s mother is a Nurse Practitioner now but she has worked as a nurse for over 20 years and her father has worked as a Correctional Officer for over 20 years. They live in, Rosedale, the north west side of Bakersfield, which is a suburban area. Hannah is the baby of the two kids and she is high strung. Although her mother is a authoritative type parent, which is good, Hannah does show some signs of ADHD and, at times, has gotten in …show more content…
is clearly still in the first stages of Kohlberg 's theory of moral development and that she has not fully moved into the second stage of Piaget 's theory of moral development. The fact that her answers were all lead by the belief that she should always follow the law and that the idea that only the punishment is the reason to follow these laws show Kohlberg 's stages of pre-convention. When she was unable to bend the social rules of never stealing, not even to save a life, Hannah showed that she is still in Piaget 's first stage as well. I believe that Hannah 's strong religious upbringing and the influences of her fathers strict criminal justice beliefs has played a part in keeping Hannah from developing to the higher levels of moral development that Kohlberg and Piaget talk about in there theories. I also know that from Hannah 's answers to the questions and due to the fact that I 've known her for years, that she is a good kid and I think she is going to grow into great
