“She graduated from Mary Mount High School in Los Angeles in 1998” (Biography). She is described as the calmest Kardashian. Kourtney first debuted on television in 2007, on Keeping up with the Kardashians. On this show, we saw that she prefers to stay home and read books, rather than go out to the club. Family is her number one priority. In fact, Kourtney’s idea of a good time is being with her family. She is involved with the family business, appears on almost every episode, and makes her family her number one priority. Often times, Kourtney is patronized by her partner, Scott Disick, for being too concerned with their children. In Season 2, Episode 7 of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Disick states, “Mason (their son) is going to be twelve and still sleeping in the same bed as his mom!” (IMDb). She kept her kids so close to her that even as they would grow up, they would not go away. Many people, both family members and fans, think she can often be very emotional. For example, in Season 8 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Episode 9 Let It Go, the family addresses her emotional distance. Kourtney explains that she had become that way because she learned at a young age that her opinion does not matter in her family. She is a loyal partner, and she has endured a “nine-year on-and-off” (biography) relationship with her partner Scott Disick. The reason it has been on and off is that Kourtney does not …show more content…
Kim is the second child in the Kardashian family. Kim adores attention and is constantly seeking it. “[Kim], it seems, is almost wired for fame” (Biography). She grew up being the center of attention; she grew up getting the behind scenes look at everything around her. Magazine after magazine, sex scandal after sex scandal, and a 72-day marriage is her reputation to fame. She also relishes in the praise she gets for her voluptuous body. Back in the second season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim brags that she is the most googled person on earth. Ironically, sister Khloe comments, “You know why she is the most googled person? Because she was googling herself” (IMDb). Unlike Kourtney, Kim is strong spoken in her family. However, she is not the most loyal partner either. She is on her third marriage. Her marriages have never lasted longer than two years. Family comes second in her world, while photoshoots come first. Kim displayed this behavior back when her sister Khloe went to jail for a DUI. Kim was in the car with Kourtney and her mom; she was taking selfies instead of being aware of the situation. Her mother, Kris Jenner, scolds her saying, “Kim! Would you stop taking pictures! Your sister is going to jail” (IMDb). Kim has made herself the main face of the Kardashian

This area of study is important to examine as we know that the media can shape the perspectives of individuals, however it leaves us to question to what extent the media shapes conversations about sex within a family unit. We may often take for granted how our opinions are influenced by media and that we, as a society, might not acknowledge their full impact on family communication. Our hope in conducting this analysis of a television show is to discover how and why parent-child communication about sex occurs and how that relates to the family structure presented in a television show that has aired in the past 10 years. Given our limitation on time and resources, we used the Netflix database to find potential shows that could provide multiple examples of parent-child communication.…
