I struggle a lot academically in high school. During my freshmen and sophomore year of high school, I would consider myself a decent student. I studied enough to get around a B average cumulative GPA. I didn’t take any honors or AP classes during my freshmen year but I took three honors classes during my sophomore year. It wasn’t until junior year in high school did I really suffered in school. I took all honors and AP classes during my junior year. Now looking back, I don’t think I should have taken that many rigorous classes. The workload was overwhelming especially since my study habits didn’t change. I cope with anxiety from the overwhelming workload by skipping class when I had a test and turn most of my assignment late. As a result, I

They feel they didn’t accomplish everything they wanted and are unsatisfied with their lives. “Persons are depressed about disappointments, failures and missed chances in life” (Hearn et al., 2011, p. 2). They are often sad and tend to verbalize regrets and feel like they have wasted much time of their lives.…

During the first few weeks of junior year, I was put under the most stress that I have ever experienced in my life. The workload from all my AP classes was never ending and there was an enormous amount of studying to be done. I usually went to sleep around one or two in the morning during the school week due to the accumulation of swim, studying, volunteering, and school related activities. Whenever I went to school, I had difficulties focusing because I was extremely exhausted. After just a month of school, I had only one A,the rest were C’s and B’s.…

I am a student who is proactive, organized, and seeks help when needed. During the four years of my high school career I worked really hard to develop these skills. My grades are not as stellar as it should be since I had to focus on paying for my own living situation which only gave me the choice to work every day right after school. Through all my responsibilities, I lost academic focus and my grades, specifically in sophomore year, suffered. However, I learnt the very important lesson of maintaining balance and I take full responsibility for the grades that I earned early on. I’ve taken those lessons into consideration and have worked harder in my academic pursuits to elevate my grades to a level that I would be proud of. I've learned and I've improved my GPA ever since then.…

Several circumstances greatly impacted my academics and GPA at the beginning of my college career, which led me to withdraw from two courses and ultimately, fail one. Without these experiences, I feel that my GPA would have been significantly higher, as I would have initially devoted more focus to my grades. First, I came to the University of Arizona as a 16-year-old student with unexplored emotional trauma. Due to my father’s drug addiction, my parents were in the midst of a legal separation during my first two years of college, in which they both separately and inappropriately confided their emotions to me while I tried to focus on school. Consequently, this separation affected me emotionally, sending me into a depression that made it difficult to focus on coursework.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…

When I was a freshman, I got nothing below an A or a B. When I began my sophomore year I started to slack off because I thought it was no big deal since I had received good grades the previous year. For example, I didn’t do all of my homework assignments and I started missing school because I didn’t feel a need to go all the time. Once I noticed my grades drifting to below a C I began to focus on my work. I then realized that the material in my classes was actually very difficult.…

I work hard to pay for my education. Every break from school I have worked to bring back money to help fund it. Other than scholarships, I am alone in paying for my school and I am happy to do so because I get to learn about the subjects that I love.
