The U.S Department of Education reports, Black Students are significantly more likely to be retained a grade during their primary and secondary education. Furthermore, Black Students score lower on Standardized tests such as the SAT. The trend continues in the criminal “justice” system where male African American Juveniles number 4 times more than their white counterparts despite only being 13% of the population (US News). Black Students are also more likely to get out of school suspensions according to the U.S. Department of Education. Eventually, Black males make up the majority of American’s Prison Population numbering at seven hundredth thousand. Inept Onlookers of the educational achievement gap, prison demographics, and news reports of “black males with hoddies” are quick to point the finger at freedom of choice or perhaps mental aptitude, but never see the full narrative that hides behind the “description” (109). The point of citizen is to portray the hidden instances of racism and injustice many suffer through every single day. Educational inequality has many tiny facets of injustice tucked away from the public consciousness. Combined these tiny droplets of racism and segregation completely soak disadvantaged youth. Racism and injustice touches the deepest part of society, and its effects are not merely superficial. Educational injustice caused by real yet subtle events has profound implications for society.
