The definition of an illegal immigrant is a foreigner who enters the U.S. without an entry or immigrant visa, especially a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson. The reason the word illegal is used is because these acts that these immigrants commit are against the law in the United States thus making them illegal. The United States has these laws in place to keep the Americans at a higher importance for the job opportunities, wages, and government help. Illegal immigration has been a big problem in the eyes of Americans. Trump delivered a speech in Arizona outlining a ten-point plan for immigration reform, one includes building a wall across the entire southern U.S. border, and that got a lot of people riled up. He wants to triple the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, require businesses nationwide to use E-Verify to determine the work eligibility of their employees, deport noncitizens with criminal records, cut federal support to so-called sanctuary cities, and restrict legal immigration. People think that what he is wanting to do is because of some terrible reasons like racism and prejudice, but he just wants to make things right again. He wants to get those out of here who have done bad or terrible things and taking jobs from those who are born here and raised legally. For amnesty to be granted to illegal immigrants is to forgive them for entering the United States illegally and in addition to other activities such as driving illegally, working using false documents, and using another persons’ social security number. Granting illegal immigrants amnesty would allow them to live, go to school, and work in the United States legally, thus giving them legal status. There has been a total of 7 amnesties passed for illegal aliens, totaling in over 4.8 million illegal immigrants’ legal status. With the amnesty “Immigration and Reform Control Act Amnesty of 1986, the 2.8 million granted amnesty brought in an additional 142,000 dependents and relatives to join family members now amnestied. The cost of amnesties and benefits being granted to former illegal immigrants has with just one 2.8 million amnesty amounted to over 78 billion in ten years of granting the amnesty, add that up to the other six. By granting these amnesties it has set a dangerous precedent that could threaten homeland security. The United States normal immigration process involves screening out potential criminals and terrorist, but with millions of illegals avoiding this screening and becoming legal allows them to permanently bypass this
