Demographics Hollister RV School District (Hollister) is a school district with a unique demographic. Hollister has an enrollment of approximately 1,400 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Demographically, there is not a wide diversity in the student body, consisting of 88.3% White, 7.2% Hispanic, 2.2% Black, 0.9% Indian and Multiracial, and .6% Asian. While Hollister’s population is not diverse, its acceptance of the diversity is high. Essentially, it outlines our processes and procedures concerning curriculum, and it is important that everyone in the district have a common understanding of Hollister’s Social Studies curriculum plan. Thoughtful and long-range planning concerning Social Studies curriculum is essential. The Handbook demonstrates Hollister has a well-thought out plan in place to approach reviewing and revising Social Studies curriculum. Hollister’s District Curriculum Handbook is newly created, and will be a key tool in helping the staff understand how to transition to this new plan for curriculum development. Ultimately, the goal in curriculum development is to ensure all students are appropriately challenged and meet with success. The curriculum plan allows for concentration on a different content area each year on a four year rotating basis. Social Studies curriculum review is scheduled to begin in year four. While all content areas have experienced a change in standards, Social Studies will not be assessed on the new standards as quickly as other content areas. The first assessments on the newly adopted standards will occur in the 2017-2018 school year. Social Studies presumable will not be newly assessed until the 2018-2019 school year. However, according to the District Curriculum Handbook, Social Studies will not be in its review year until the 2019-2020 school year. Since the review year will be the year after the probable first year of a new assessment, one recommendation would be to revise the curriculum review schedule to accommodate this
