What is hidden curriculum? How does it affect teachers’ practices?
There are various roles that are intended to be achieved by the current education system. Education mainly aims at enabling the youth to acquire skills that are essential for the success of their lives. Education is designed in a manner that the learners will have varied ways of thinking that are better in enhancing their lives. Education enables learners to have different perspectives on life. There is a curriculum that is used by teachers and covered in the books that in most cases remains hidden. Some of the concepts that are taught in the hidden curriculum include how to relate with various individuals. They are taught on how to relate with people from various races. Hidden curriculum is considered hidden since it is not acknowledged nor examined. The various values that are stated by the curriculum are accepted by the teachers and the community. Therefore, when implemented there is no much resistance. The various hidden messages and practices do not change whether contributing to positive or negative aspects in society. Bullying, conflicts and low graduation are examples of issues that are addressed by hidden curriculum. Therefore, teachers d not have direct control over their students. With the change of role, teachers collaborate with students to share the learning experience. Both students and instructors form willing partners in the education system. The hidden curriculum requires that teachers should have total control of their classrooms. With such a system being put in place, the role of teachers in society would be easier, and learning can take place effectively since teachers have all the time to concentrate on teaching (Daly, et al.
