Hateful Love Sometimes it takes a tragedy to make people understand and solve their differences, a good example of this is Romeo and Juliet. The play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare tells the story of two star-crossed lovers drifted apart because of their feud. Both terribly in love, do whatever is necessary to be together, but they fail to do so and would rather be dead than not together. If it was not for the feud causing Romeo’s exile, not allowing them to be together, or making them hide their marriage then Romeo and Juliet would still be alive. After their love at first sight and finding out about their backgrounds, Romeo and Juliet were sure that their love would not be approved of. In the well-renowned balcony scene, full of fear, Juliet tells Romeo, “... And the place death, considering who thou art, if any of my kingsmen are no to stop me” (II. ii. 64-65). They were both very much in love and would rather die than not be together, but their parents would never allow them to be together because of the quarrel between Montagues and Capulets. Even the prince acknowledges that the feud killed Romeo and Juliet by saying, “See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, that heaven finds means to kill your joys with love!” (V. iii.

When Tybalt sees Romeo at the Capulet’s party he says, “This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What, dares the slave come hither, covered with an antic face, to fleer and scorn at our solemnity” (I. v. 51-57). Since Tybalt does not like Romeo, due to the feud, he gets angered to see him at the party and eventually gets Romeo exiled. After hearing the news, Juliet is obviously devastated and goes as far as to say, “That “banished,” that one word “banished” hath slain ten thousand Tybalts” (III. ii. 114-115). She was very disappointed, which leads her to take a potion and end up killing
