What Is Hamlet's View Of Love

Hamlet experiences a lot of life changing events before the play starts and just as it is beginning. Those who go through multiple very traumatic events very close together can sometimes develop a sense of crazy and out of control, and sometimes their view of specific aspects of their life can be changed depending on the event. Hamlet views love differently than everyone else in the play because of his past experiences and what is happening to him in the present. Because Hamlet has been disillusioned about love by his mother’s actions, he rejects the possibility that romantic love is an important part of human relationships. He is consumed by the outrageousness of his mother’s love for his uncle, and he therefore rejects Ophelia’s love for him, though he admitted to loving her at one point. Although Hamlet is justified to feel disgust towards his mother and her actions, his negative view of love has dreadful implications, not just for him, but for other characters as well.

Hamlet is saying this about Ophelia and this could be his way of proving he believes all women are untrustworthy. Hamlet felt this way about women because of how his mother quickly married his uncle shortly after the death of his father. Hamlet felt she was corrupt because she wasted no time marrying Claudius, this could imply there was a relationship prior to the death of King Hamlet.

Hamlet claimed to have loved Ophelia after he found out about her death but while she was alive the rejected her.
