Gender discrimination in the workplace is when an individual is treated differently in their employment precisely because of their gender.
• Gender inequality may occur directly or indirectly. Direct gender discrimination in the workplace, is when an individual is being treated unfavourably by an employee due to their gender. This type of discrimination may occur, if male and female employees are doing exactly the same work, but male employees are being paid more this is an extract from the Australian Human Right Commission.
• Indirect gender discrimination occurs when employees or managers hold assumption about what sort of work women or men are capable of or not capable of performing. An example of indirect discrimination may be, if a policy says that managers must work full-time as this might disadvantage women as they are more likely to work part-time because of caring responsibilities, this is an extract for the Australian Human Rights commission).
What types of jobs/positions are most likely to experience the issue?
