Social psychology has been one of the most interesting and eye opening classes that I have taken here at the College of Idaho. I have always been curious in the psychological side of nature and especially the social part of it. Interactions happen each and every day and most people go on throughout their day without questioning or thinking about what we do what we do in certain situations. Every day, we are faced with some sort of predicament that causes you to think or sometimes even act negatively towards that person. I was walking around campus with my teammate and he made a comment about someone and I was able to bring up an external factor that could have explained it and he said, “I never thought of it that way that’s a good point.” To me, that was cool because I got one of friends to think differently about a situation.
The problem with today’s society is we are too quickly to judge people and we do not take the time to look at the big picture. As someone who has learned about the fundamental attribution error, I will plan on doing my best to get my friends and family to think more about the big picture. To your disappointment, the friend you called does not answer. As someone who does not know about the fundamental attribution error, you may be quick to assume the person is ignoring you or something along those lines. The real truth could be from an external factor. Just the other day, I caught myself thinking that I was being ignored after a friend did not pick up the phone when I was calling. I later found out he was not ignoring me. In fact, he was dealing with a situation and did not even take that into consideration. That was the moment I knew I would be writing my paper on the fundamental attribution error. If I am ever with someone and this same situation happens to them, I will be able to explain to them that it is not always an internal factor that explains someone else’s behavior, but an
