Flag Day is a holiday that is celebrated every year on June 14th. The purpose of this holiday is to celebrate the adoption of the American Flag, which took place in 1777. June 14th is also the date that the United States Army was established.
How Flag Day Became A Holiday
A teacher in Wisconsin reportedly came up with the idea for flag day in 1885. In 1916, a proclamation was issued by President Woodrow Wilson and June 14th was established as the official Flag Day. June 14th was permanently established as the date for National Flag Day by an Act of Congress. However, Flag Day is not a federal holiday. Pennsylvania is currently the only state that observes Flag Day as a state holiday.
