palpable resources, like alternative housing, financial means, employment and/or employability, and availability of supports, that directly affects outcomes (Schmidt, 2014). This is a common theme and issue in group interventions with survivors. In order to be able to furnish survivor necessities essential in practice on the mid- level, there must be aid rendered within the community supports. There is validity in not allowing the micro clinical intervention to not be the sole intervention rendered, group intervention allows for mutual aid and communal change. Meta-Level Practice Theory…
. It can be and is important to note and decipher that causes of criminality cannot always be attributed to one identifiable or attributed cause as causes of criminality is multifaceted. For example, in striving to determine why women offenders face the onset of imprisonment and incarceration, feminist criminological theory asserts that women turn to crime and criminality as a result of inequality dominated by patriarchy. It can be suggested that women are marginalized within society as a result of pending and ongoing patriarchy. Women bear different challenges in terms of criminality and incarceration.…
Sentencing Disparity among Men and Women Does sentencing disparity exist among men in women who are being sentence for violent, property, and drug offenses? Is sentencing disparity based on race or what ethnic group you belong to? Does judicial bias really take place in the sentencing process? If you are convicted of a crime, the best thing you can having going for you is your gender. Fair sentencing is individualized sentencing.…
The design of drug court came about to address the underlying cause(s) of criminal acts committed by offenders. Drug addiction and or mental health issues plague many people who found themselves in drug court; therefore, this specialty court’s job is to provide intense supervision and management of those needing treatment. The offenders are regularly tested and mandated to attendance, their participation monitored by a supervising judge. ("Specialty Courts," n.d.)…
Women are considered to be a historically recognized minority group because they do not share the same power, privileges, rights, and opportunities as men. (Boundless) As an American woman I am aware of the treatment of women in today’s American society, and in this paper I shall look back at past accomplishments of women attempting to create fairness and freedom for women as a whole. It disturbs me that women who are victims of a crime do not go to court to report such crimes because of the way that the court treats women as if they may have “deserved” to be raped, beaten, or otherwise attacked by a male. In the United States, women have had less legal rights as men and have been treated as socially secondary and subordinate to men since…
The criminal justice system is supposed to treat all the people seeking justice with equality and fairness irrespective of their race or their economic status. Every person has a right to be given fair treatment and fair judgment since he or she has all the rights to belong to a country or region. All the rights should be enjoyed by all people even if some are poor or rich. This should not count in the criminal justice system However, this happens.…
The authors also compare the "liberal" feminists to "critical feminists. " Consider these differences and other theories presented in the text as you formulate your thoughts for this exercise. Compare what the liberal feminists assert versus what the critical feminists assert concerning each of these: gender roles, women 's rights, and female delinquency. First, liberal feminism asserts that women are less likely to be delinquent than men, because of their social roles in society which gives them fewer opportunities in committing crimes.…
In particular, liberal feminism guided the creation of mandatory charge policies, which were supposed to ensure that regardless of the gender of the individual who was victimized, police would be required to take the incident seriously. Liberal feminism is widely criticized for focusing on the middle class, particularly white middle-class women (Comack, 2014, p. 37). This is particularly clear in examining some of the implications of the mandatory charge policy. Mandatory charge policies ignore the unique characteristics of domestic violence that do not typically exist in other sections of criminal law (Brown, 2000, p. iv).…

Gender Policing sometimes defines our society and this needs to change. “Gender policing is a normative approach to gender that involves coercion and socialization of individuals into conforming to the gender binary” …(MediaWiki, 2014.) Gender Policing also goes hand in hand with gender norms. Normative approaches to gender such as clothing categories for either females or males, what sports each the average male or female should play, if a baby is female or male at birth. The fact that at birth we are forced to give babies a gender when just coming out of the mother’s womb just shows how strong the influence of gender policing is in our society.…
Everyone has been saying that our criminal justice system needs to be reformed and yet there hasn’t been much action taken on reform. In order to bring more equality between men and women, there needs to be change in the criminal justice system. The best way to ensure that men and women of all races are treated the same as in the criminal justice system is to not let the defendant in the court. If the judge and jury don’t see, hear or know the name of who they are convicting they won’t be biased and will convict the defendant according to their crime and not their race, gender or sexual orientation. The judge and jury will only see the lawyer who is representing the defendant.…
Gender violence includes offenses such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment, and anyone of any gender can become a victim. However, the stereotypical victim of gender violence is female because a large proportion of victims are women. Consequentially, as Jackson Katz discusses in his TED Talk “Violence against women – it’s a men’s issue”, many people believe that issues such as domestic violence and sexual harassment only affect women and, thus, are deemed “women’s issues”. One obvious consequence of this stereotype is that male victims are often overlooked or dismissed, but Katz sheds light upon other consequences of referring to gender violence as a “women’s issue” that contribute to its perpetuation.…
Essay 2: It’s all Socially Constructed Gender as a Social Construct Understanding the difference between sex and gender is essential for determining how society constructs the idea of gender. Sex is the biological differences that separate males from females (Conley 2015). This includes all innate differences between the sexes including chromosomal differences, and differences in reproductive organs.…
Gender is not necessarily indicative of the sex organs with which we are born. When you are talking about male and female, you are referring to sex and not gender. On the other hand, gender is the social construction of a person 's sex. Gender refers to the social definition and cultural expectations of what it means to be man or woman. In addition, some people may identify a gender differently from their sex.…
When discussing the different feminist theories, it is highly important to define feminism. Whenever we discuss feminism often or not, patriarchy is brought to the table. Looking through the lenses of women today; we notice different situations because of the diversity among ourselves (women in this case). Skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion and nationality all play a huge role in the discussion of what connects women to each other. We will be taking a look at how patriarchy infiltrates most of the legal, social and political channels.…
