What Is Family Centered Care

Thank you for your post Christina, you have brought forward an interesting topic about family centered care. I found your post to be informative as this is a unique situation that most nurses do not inquire about or explore (Aeromedical Transportation). Advocating for patients and familys is an important nursing role. It is important to not just look at the patient as the whole focus but to look at the patient and their family members to have a complete understanding of who they are as a whole unit. I agree with your statement that decisions can be based on financial reasons as I also encounter this issues working in a rural acute care hospital. We face the challenges of sending patients for diagnostic testing to a larger healthcare center by ambulance. These much needed tests are effected by the a list of approved transportable facilities. If the center is not approved the patient needs to pay for their ambulance trip which in return can impact their decision to go for testing if they cannot afford the transportation costs. …show more content…
It is important to treat your patients well not only as it the right thing to do ethically and professionally, but it helps develop an effective relationship. When focusing on family centered care it is important to build a relationship with the patient and family members that is based on trust, honesty and mutual respect. This in turn opens a door for communication and collaboration that will benefit the patients’ health status and build towards a successful discharge. I can also agree with your comments about the barriers that the nursing staff face in the work setting, especially with workloads increasing and taking focus and time away from bedside
