Ezekiel chapter 34 is such a powerful message to all of us today. Biblically, leaders are referred to as shepherds, and their flocks of sheep are the people they rule over. In Ezekiel, God calls out His leaders for not taking care of the people. The shepherds have neglected to do what they were instructed to do, and God is quite upset with them. Just like this story, leaders today are called to be faithful to God, by ensuring the safety and well-being of their people. Leaders should not profit from their “sheep”. As in Ezekiel however, those leaders benefitted greatly from their sheep. According to God’s will, leaders cannot use their power for their own gain. Instead, leaders are obligated to use the tools that God provides
