Nobody wants to hear an argument between two people they love. They are instantly torn because even though they might agree with one person over the other, they care about the other person as well and do not want to hurt that person’s feelings. This type of argument may have been even more difficult for Emily Dickinson, an iconic American poet, because the argument that she was experiencing was her versus herself. Unlike some people in the middle of arguments there was no way for her to leave the argument. In her poem “Me from Myself-to Banish*” she details being alone, her desire for peace, and an inner conflict that she is having with herself.
