Last class, I learned about Elisha and Elijah, how God scorns the people of Israel for their rituals, and His promotion of social justice.
Isaiah’s Commissioning of a Prophet (6)
In a dream, Isaiah saw God sitting on the throne and surrounded by seraphims. Isaiah was confused, as he deems himself too unclean to see and speak to God. In response, one of the seraphims came down and burn his mouth with coal, stating that now his lips are clean. God then gave a task to Isaiah, to spread his words. Although he was to spread God’s words, God told Isaiah to make sure that the people will “listen, but do not understand; keep looking, but do not understand.” Isaiah is supposed to do that until Israel is completely depopulated and God mentions a holy seed in a stomp. …show more content…
For one, the people of Israel are unable to understand that God is their master/parent and that they ended up rebelling against Him. God is having enough of their rituals and demands that they need to “cease to do evil; learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressors; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.” God is promoting social justice, but the people are going against that. Instead they are taking bribes, are greedy, and are not taking care of the fatherless and the
