One aspect of Edithas letter is to explain to George how serious she feels about the war and how her ideal man shall honor his country “ The man I marry must love his country first of all, and be able to say to me, ‘I could not love thee, dear so much, Loved I not honor more” (494). While writing the letter Editha collects all the gifts and letters she possess from George and prepares a package to ship off, giving him a choice to either agree with her decision or end the relationship “If we cannot be one in everything we had better be one in nothing” (494). Editha felt that she is not giving Gearson a fair chance to make his decision so she decided to keep the letter near by and wait upon his decision. Editha waited upon Gearson decision
