On October 7, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was found deceased in a bar in Baltimore. Mr. Poe was born on January
19,1809 Boston, Massachusetts. Three years after his birth, Poe’s parents died and he was adopted by John Allan, a wealthy tobacco merchant, and his wife, Frances Valentine. At the age of thirteen, Poe had a collection of poetry enough to publish a book. In 1826 Poe attended the University of Virginia, where he passed all of his classes with very high grades, but ended up with a lot of debt. At the end of his first term, he had burned all of his furniture just to keep warm at night. Poe returned to Richmond ashamed of his excessive debt.
