Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires the patient to make everyday decisions regarding their quality of life along with other factors. In achieving these objectives, patients with DM are introduced and trained through self-management education and support programs. Many of the activities involved in managing the complexities of DM can be done sufficiently outside of the clinic or hospital environment.
