In Congress today, we have what many call “Career Politicians”, these are politicians that serve many terms for years and years upon end. This negatively affects our ability to pass laws and have a unified congress when nothing changes. Congress has a necessity for new people with new ideas, rather than the prevalence of career politicians…
All citizens of the United States have, at one point or another, been taught that America is a nation founded on the principles of a democratic society. Principles that, forged in the crucible of war, endow it citizens with an undeniable right to directly participate in the political process. America’s Forefathers would be profoundly disappointed, however, to learn that the unchecked influence of special interest has sullied the very fabric of United States politics. The Founding Fathers, in spite of their boundless knowledge, had not the foresight to see just how easily monetary influence would try the fortitude of their burgeoning political system. The effects of their unknowingness permeate throughout the United States government; yet still the American people are seemingly unware of – or perhaps altogether unmoved by – the astonishing amount of money being funneled into the political machine, let alone the identities of those making such remarkable donations.…
The representatives will begin to be seen as “… a body distinct from them, and having separate interests to pursue…” he gives the example that if a man is employed by a stranger, he is less likely to be trusting of him because he does not know his character or ambitions and will “trust him with caution, and be suspicious of all his conduct.” Hypothesizing of all the uneasiness and distrust in the government, the conclusion shows it will become extremely lethal, mainly because if the United States needed to ban together the notion of so many diverse and…
Proposition 50 was the only California state proposition on the primary ballot last June. Due in part to current law, while the suspension of public officials can occur, the consequences of loss of salary and/or benefits are non-existent, allowing for corruption to pervade their position without consequence. Corruption in the service of the public should never be acceptable practice and no public servant should be allowed to get away with a lack of ethics. Proposition 50 addresses the issue of ethical corruption derived from actions involving suspensions without financial consequences being imposed. Congressman Ian Calderon, along with a few other California State legislators, designed the proposition to refuse legislative members’ salaries,…
Rudalevige examines the ways in which the executive branch of government has evolved since it was first constructed under the founding fathers. He has found that the executive branch has become much larger and dramatically evolved since it was first created in the eighteenth century (Rudalevige, X, 2). Undoubtedly some changes were believed to be for the good of the country. At times these changes and expansions have proved to be fatal for the American citizens who were promised to be represented in the Legislative branch of government through the constitution. The creation of president’s dealing in “secrecy”, “deceit”, and “careless exercise of power” certainly developed through time (Rudalevige, 5).…
A weakness seen with the legislative branch is the possible disconnect that a Congressman can have over representation during their time in office. With both the House and Senate able to do unlimited terms, the possibility of corruption and losing touch with the people they represent can grow over time if the people allow it. This can already be seen to an extent with certain members of Congress that are not being loyal to the party they represent. To maintain the strength, the checks and balances of all branches of government need to be excercised. This system allows no branch from being more powerful than the other while also preventing any abuse of powers within any branch.…
In issues like Government Corruption and the issue of homeland security, it is preferred that we leave our trust into representatives who know the details and the knowledge to represent our worries and issues in the best way possible. As citizens we often feel obligated to get involved in the government on a more personal level hoping that we ourselves can make an impact with our proposed options and decisions. The problem with that is we do not always know what is best for ourselves. For example, if our nation was proposing ways to crack down on heavier security by heavier border patrol and restricting access to and from other countries, it is best that we rely on our trustee representative to represent our worries and concerns about the issue rather than trying to take the situation onto ourselves. If our representative believes that it is in our best interest to follow these strict guidelines of enforcement then we need to trust in him or her that they made the best choice for all of us that will eventually show to be the best outcome…
The general subject of the article is the president’s appeal to address president’s authority as it reference to war, for congress to address decisions made and renounce them. This article is illustrating the decisions congress made during the Bush Administration in a result of the ongoing foreign affairs. A lot of these decisions limited the president’s power as commander in chief. Considering the Sole Organ doctrine, this puts the president in a controversial bind with Congress and the constitution. The constitution only allows congress to declare war.…
We don’t feel as though that political corruption has been eliminated from the American political theatre. We say this because corruption is going on not only in the theatre but in the actually real world. If in real life you see corruption then how could you make a movie about about political things and not make it how you see it. In the movie they try to make it seem like Mr.Smith signed off on the land but they actually plagiarized his name and they made the target when they were playing with him. They made him think he was in control…
Congress takes on a very important job when they write up and vote on bills. Congress people can vote on bills based the popular majority of their constitutes making them representatives, or they can be trustees and act according to their own opinions while voting on a bill. Some Congress people may use both styles at different times when voting on bills or they may use neither style. By using neither style they would not vote the way the people want or based upon their own view of what is best for citizens, typically the Congress person would vote based upon party lines or the way their donors want them to vote. Sadly, many Congress people do not vote the way the people want them to or the way that is best for the most citizens.…
This week our congress and senate went back to work, but there is little hope that much will be accomplished from this approximately month long session. As usual our country is facing many issues from zika to gun control to clinton’s controversies. There is no shortage of action needed by congress. According to Tom Frieden, "Basically, we're out of money, and we need Congress to act to allow us to respond effectively. " All politics aside our citizens health is at risk, and our lawmakers need to take action to aid in the protection from this virus.…
One lesson is that a comprehensive strategy combining economic reforms and the strengthening of national integrity establishments is prone to have beyond success than independently reforms, such as establishing an anticorruption agency without undertaking related reforms. Essence to any strategy, conversely is political commitment. (huffingtonpost., 2014) The United States also works in political fields and through simultaneous frameworks working group on bribery, extractive industries, Transparency Initiative, Open Government Partnership, and U.N. Convention in opposition to Corruption to build political back bone, distribute good practices, and encourage transparency and compliance with international…
Members of Congress are typically involved with politics so they can gain a sense of personal power. Their underlying motives for personal power are usually ego gratification, personal salvation through good works, constructing a better world, or self-absorption with status and self-love. But to obtain this endowment, they must win reelection. Doing so would ensure the formal status as an elected representative and honor societies custom ideals. This mandate from the people helps to secure a positon that others will not try to reckon with.…
Congress's approval rating has been decreasing ever since March 2015. However, a new poll has shown what most people in America really think about congress. A poll showed that 52 percent of people believe that congress is corrupt. Not only do people believe that congress is corrupt, but they also believe that congress cannot relate to everyday people.…
Congressional Ethics In a former U.S. Representative Paul Broun left Congress at the tip of 2014. House committee investigations were making an effort into his alleged misuse of dealing with the money funds for political functions that were disappearing. Ethics consultants say there's little or no fashionable stance of a passed action, investigation outgoing to Congress for him returning to work, but it's the committee leaders who can opt to open up their concerns, needs, to be compelled to Broun coming back to Washington (Hallerman, T., 2016). Committee hearing, The House committee began making an effort into Broun's behavior in time of the year 2014.…
