Christmas Spirit Essay

What is Christmas Spirit? Twinkly lights hang along every roof top in down as a slight flurry falls from the sky and cascades the dingy grass. Each chimney has a puff of smoke fading into the wind as the Christmas tree peaks out the windows of every house. Fresh gingerbread cookies come out of the oven feeling little boys and girls noses with the sweet dreams of Santa Claus as they get ready for bed. Christmas is a time that brings out the best in people. Our spirits get uplifted around this time of year, but the true spirit comes from the time with our families, giving to others, and the atmosphere around us. Each family has their own traditions they use during the holidays. Throughout the years, my family has formed our own traditions. One of them is that out of all relatives including my aunts, uncles, and cousins, we all put our names in a cup and pick one so we can get each other a present. Coming from the small town of Bardstown, Kentucky, known as “the most beautiful small town in America,” I always feel the Christmas spirit when I see the candy canes line the sidewalks, the white horse carriage with flashing lights, the massive Christmas tree in front of the old courthouse and the ‘Santa’s coming to town!’ Flyers all around the old shops downtown. The beauty in the area just puts a smile on my face. My whole family puts aside one day to pull all of the old decorations out of storage and begin to make our house feel like Christmas. Apart of our annual house decorating is baking cookies, drinking hot cocoa, and singing Christmas carols as we decorate the tree. The one song that really puts me into the holiday spirit is “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” because of how true that statement is.
