In past, Christmas was celebrated for Jesus was born in order to surround the small meals with whole family members. Yet right now, companies advertise Christmas is the best time to shopping. Every American waste the money for the present. This film raises this problem and has been following Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir while they were across the country. I cannot agree on the way tell their opinion because it was extremely radical. However, basically, I agree what he said.
In the middle of the film, they raise the problem of the ghost town. That issue caught my attention because my country has an exactly same experience

Closely related to the tradition of first immigrants, Thanksgiving does not undergo any fashions and fluctuations. Thanksgiving Turkey has to be big ( 19 lbs) to feed 20 people and to provide much more food than during the regular meal (Friends). Dellarobia and Cub Turnbow, a bickering, low-class rural couple, showcased in “Flight Behavior” by Barbara Kingsolver, written in 2012, display front and center the emotional and financial hardship that their socioeconomic class face on a day-to-day basis. The balancing act between providing a valuable Christmas, while keeping a balanced budget provides a challenge to the Turnbows. Class difference, like in rural Feathertown, Tennessee maintains the commercialist ideals that solidify and exacerbate the never-ending battle of affordability versus value and a changing discussion on the actual true meaning of Christmas. Globalization introduces a cycle into the commercialist sphere that perpetuates the class difference between socioeconomic classes. Imported products, manufactured cheaply in East Asia due to…

The documentary named Suburban America: Problems and Promise is an extremely interesting film in my own opinion due to the issue that it brings and discusses with regards to the suburbia. The movie is by APT, which stands for the American Public Television. The documentary highlighted a lot of places in the United States of America such as Long Island, Orange County, and Cleveland that discusses the changes that occurred in the suburban areas in which every area gave its own story in the film. The audience that was focused on during the documentary is the one that lives in the suburbia and the changes of those places socially and politically. All of these places have issues such as an aging infrastructure and with such problems the suburbia is still alive.…

The Village remains one of M. Night Shyamalan’s best works within his cinematic career. The story takes place in a small village where a forbidden forest encompasses the entire community. If any individual crosses the imaginary border into the forest, the villagers believe that monsters would seek vengeance and attack anyone who trespasses upon their territory. The elders lead the town and make the decisions for the greater good of the community. Americans all over the nation have become far too accustomed to the big blue corporate stores; know as Wal-Mart, they are incapable of seeing the damage caused by the corporate Wal-Mart, which ultimately impacts all social classes. Thus, many citizens are incapable of surviving without one-stop stores like Wal-Mart. This is a big issue because Wal-Mart is the main good-provider in the U.S. This movie poster effectively utilizes imagery by using pathos to portray Wal-Mart as the middle class destroyer. It is evident by looking at the poster that Wal-Mart corporations affect communities by placing a dark blanket over them, which suffocates citizens economically.…

This argument analysis will be examining the Op-Ed piece, “Stuff is Not Salvation” by Anna Quindlen. Quindlen constructs an argument analyzing how Americans today throw themselves into debt by spending all their money on materialistic items instead of necessities. Quindlen produced her piece during 2008 when the recession took place and while the economy was still struggling during the height of the Christmas shopping season. Quindlen’s argument against splurging for materialistic items in the name of vanity and greed does not effectively create ethos and is not persuasive for her audience of Americans shopping for the holiday season due to its lack of fact based evidence. The first reason Quindlen is arguing against nonessential expenditures particularly during the holiday shopping season is that the economy is in a recession and it would be far wiser to spend money on the items necessary for daily life rather than junk soon to be forgotten.…

When it comes to the topic of eliminating holidays, most of us will readily agree that these holidays have been around eternally. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of should these American holidays come to their end. Whereas some are convinced that American holidays are a part of history and shaping American culture, others maintain that American holidays only are in favor of a small amount of people. Although various of these holidays honor specific people, these holidays are all in honor of cultural and historical events. All these American holidays have been around for centuries.…

When choosing a film to write about, I selected the movie Holes since it was a movie very familiar to me and something I used to enjoy watching as a child. Holes, released in April 18, 2003, is a film written about a young boy, Stanley Yelnats IV, who was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, due to his bad luck and 100-year-old family curse. Having been falsely accused of stealing a famous baseball player’s cleats, Stanley was forced to go to court and instead of being sentenced to serve local time, he was sent to a juvenile correctional camp called camp green lake. This camp was designed for teenage boys who were forced to spend their days digging Holes out in the desert, in what the camp counselors and officials referred to as, “building character.”…

The first time I watched this, I was with my roommate who absolutely loves this movie. This time when I watched it, I could see the story from a whole different angle.…
