What Is Cheryl's Flashbacks

Decent Essays
2. As Cheryl treks her 1,100 mile hike she has flashbacks and sees things either in through nature or the people she meets that remind her of her past. These flashbacks make her story interesting and add a lot more to the plot of the film. Without the flashbacks the audience would not understand why she is pushing to complete this nearly impossible hike. We would not understand Cheryl completely besides the fact that she is pushing herself, learning more, and becoming stronger as a woman. The flashbacks give more context and meaning to the certain things she does and some of her behavior. Cheryl hums the song that her mom used always sing in the kitchen. Hampl begins to explain that a memoir is “a matter of transcription,” meaning that one has the power to present what details they choose to share. As a memoirist, you soon begin to question whether your memory is a reliable source or if your mind filled those empty gaps with desirous details. However, those memories that we simply remember must have been part of a life-changing moment that was not apparent to us at that moment. Although one intended goal could be accuracy, writing a memoir could help one discover what they know compare to the assumption of what happened.…

I think that Connor felt the same feeling as the ending of his dream. Maybe the end of his dream has to do with fear or worry but if it is the same feeling then i have no clue what his dream is or even his fear. I think Connor is thinking about the consequences of what the monster had him do or even what he done. I can relate to this because i know what it's like having the feeling once you realized you did something wrong but then you didn't realize it.…

Throughout The Memory Keeper’s Daughter, the characters’ thoughts are revealed in different ways. I like the way that the author includes the character thinking to himself to reveal his/her thoughts. The author does include conversations, between the characters, but when their personal thoughts are included, it allows me to understand the character in more depth. For example, Caroline says in her head, “What will become of her?” (Edwards, 95).…

Today I am going to talk, in very abridged form, a little bit about my experience of getting to know the amazing person who goes by the name of Cecilia Bernard, and what I have learned about her over the past three years of knowing her, which was both a fortunate and unfortunate event. Fortunate, obviously, because I got to meet her and see everything great about her. Unfortunate, though, as it took me as long as it did to meet her. What I first learned about her is that she was very open and inviting. I found this out on the way to New Orleans.…

An individual’s sanity is sustained by his or her memories. Ken Kesey digs deep into this concept in his famous novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest as he unravels the importance of memories in the shape of flashbacks which occur all throughout the novel. Although they can confuse the reader, Kesey brilliantly uses flashbacks to expose the significance of memories as they can be the one thing left to hold onto, and portray the origin of an individual’s personality. When the characters in the story seem to struggle, the one thing that they can hold on to regardless of what occurs is their fond memories. The first flashback in the novel describes Chief’s effort to put his mind somewhere else due to the fear of being shaved by Nurse Ratched.…
