When the heart stops, the lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few minutes. A person may die within 10 minutes. To be better prepared before giving CPR, it’s better to take a First-Aid class. Taking a First-Aid course will properly teach you the steps and health risks that come with giving someone CPR. If you are untrained and have immediate access to a phone, call 911 before beginning CPR. The dispatcher can instruct you in the proper procedures until help arrives.
