One of Brighton School’s significant shortcomings is our attendance rate. Education is not a major priority amongst some of the families in the community. Alana, for example, almost missed a whole week of school due to traveling to a casino with her mother and grandmother. Serenity’s older sister dropped out of high school recently, so she often successfully talks her grandparents into letting her stay home, as well. Serenity is in the fourth grade. With only 400 students, during the 2016-2017 school year, there were a total of 3,497 absences and 3,981 tardies.
