Let’s Bend The Rules, Baxter Style! A Look Inside ‘Raven’s Home’ Episode 8

Breaking the rules on school property is illegal. Try telling that to the Baxter-Grayson kids and Tess in Episode 8 of Raven’s Home.

When Booker and Levi want virtual reality goggles, they try to mooch from their mothers. When that doesn’t work, they decide to break the rules and sell snacks at school. Meanwhile, Raven helps Chelsea break the cycle of making excuses for her ex-husband, Garrett.

The Future Is Now…Or Not
Dressing up in business suits, Booker and Levi make a ‘business pitch’ to their mothers. Raven sarcastically calls Booker ‘Steve Harvey’. When asked why they’re dressed up, the boys pitch their need for virtual reality goggles. Raven and Chelsea find

Unfortunately for Tess, Levi manages to swindle two dollars from her. Nia eyes him, asking what he’s doing. Levi explains to her, Booker and Tess that his dad taught him about supply and demand. Nia and Tess want in on the venture as well, stating they want limited edition best friend sneakers. Booker tells the group he’s in charge only for Nia to say he’ll be the one in trouble if anyone finds out. Not wanting to take the risk, Booker puts Levi in charge.

The kids pull the Baxter clan’s camping backpacks out of storage. When asked why it’s necessary, Levi responds, saying that the backpacks match. In other words, it makes it harder to get caught. Tess notices the vending is once again working. Coach Spitz leaves the vending machine to get change from his car. He basically threatens the kids if they touch his favourite snack.

Seeing his friends’s disappointment, Levi encourages them to crush the competition. Booker points out their competition is the vending machine. Tess pulls out a rock with Levi questioning why she has it. Tess explains she carries a rock with her at all times. At the sound of the bell, Nia and Tess dejectedly say they won’t be getting their sneakers. Levi comes up with the idea of unplugging the machine and putting the out of order sign back up. Booker has a vision of it raining money. He goes to tell Levi to go about his plan only to find he’s already done

They’re watching an old infomercial for the Schmop. The video showed her with blonde hair in the form of a horrible wig. Booker admits that he didn’t know mops existed in the ‘olden days’. Raven tells him mops exists before seven years ago.

Nia asks how they haven’t seen the ad before. Chelsea says that she didn’t want to remember that part of her life. A dazed Levi says that he would want to forget his mother’s blonde hairstyle. Raven tells him that it’s rude to say things about Chelsea’s hair. However, she says she can get away with it because she’s Chelsea’s bestie. Chelsea cautions her by saying she’s in the informercial too. Raven tells the kids to shut it off, but Nia refuses, saying they have to see it.

Raven’s short part in the ad has her with a pixie haircut. Raven tells the kids that if they laugh, they’re grounded. The twins laugh with Levi and Chelsea joining.

Conclusion
Yet another enjoyable episode. The episode served as a powerful message to viewers, especially its young audience. As an audience, we learn there is more to the story than what appears on the surface. We see the impact Chelsea’s divorce had on not just her but, on Levi as well. The beliefs the boy had about his father and how his decisions affected his mother ands show the effects divorce has on

Unimpressed by the early morning alarm clock, he angrily pulled his pillow over his head and attempted to drown out the noise. From across the room, Tom yawned loudly, a sleepy smile spreading across his face.…
