In the beginning of the story Bluebeard is introduced as as a rich man while the females/his neighbour is portrayed simply as " A lady of Quality" with two "perfect beauties" as daughters because of course he wouldn’t have approached the women if they were not beautiful. Bluebeard is a rich man with a house in the town and country with many riches. One of the wife's brothers is a dragoon and the other is a musketeer, both very suitable titles to receive. What roles are the women given? A mother who is a "lady of quality" her two daughters are are "perfect beauties" one who is married into an abusive household as a housewife, and the other who eventual marries as a housewife as well. There are other females in the story; the wife's friends are portrayed as stereotypical women who are only attracted to gold and beauty, who only like to gossip and envy those who are better off than them. The women in this story are also shown as weak and frightened who only cry because that is the only thing they can do. All the work is left for the men, in her time of trouble the young women only weeps and begs awaiting her brothers who are stronger than she is. Women are shown as to rely on men to be stronger than them and save them in a time of need. It was a typical damsel in distress situation, and yet what if her brothers where one second late? It shows that without them there was no other possible way for her to survive, and that ridiculous she was in the house alongside her sister there could have have been so many ways for her to pull herself out of that situation. Just like modern day(though we have moved forward) her rights were taken from her and she was forced to wait for someone else to enable her. This is the sad reality women have to face today and tales like these do not make it easier for the self confidence of younger girls, until how long will text deceive them that they must wait and rely on men to enjoy a good
