Molecules like cyclosporine that are non-ionisable, lipophilic and non-polar are challenging to formulate due to their low solubility and no effect of pH on solubility, and they are also solubilised in non-aqueous solutions composed entirely of organic solvents. The combination of polyoxyethylated castor oil and ethanol that are water miscible surfactants and solvents can be used to solubilise the non-polar active ingredient, cyclosporine. Therefore, the excipients are appropriate for the formulation. Polyoxyethylated castor oil is a surface active agent that increases the solubility of drugs that are poorly soluble in water with the formation of micelles. Surfactants have an amphipathic nature, so it will form micelles when placed in water,…

Plastic products that are not properly recycled can end up in landfills; as plastics sit in a landfill they become compressed amongst other layers of garbage, when rainwater flows through the landfill, the water absorbs the water-soluble compounds in the layers of plastic, some ow which are highly toxic, creating a harmful strew called leachate. Leachate is a liquid that has dissolved or entrained environmentally harmful substances. These leachates make their way into groundwater, soil, and streams, poisoning ecosystems and harming wildlife (Bryce, 2015). Furthermore, plastic products…
