Beowulf; role model to all and greatest hero of his time. He truly has the characteristics of an epic hero and his legacy in the epic Beowulf truly shows his worth to his time. As a young man Beowulf took on two of his greatest battles, within the period of a couple weeks. He traveled to Denmark to battle with a legendary monster, Grendel, who has been terrorizing the Danes for years. Then moves on to rid the swamps of Grendel's mother, a terrifying work of evil. As Beowulf ages his final battle is to go up against a dragon, sleeping around a glorious treasure. Like the other battles Beowulf makes himself a legend.
Strength, intelligence and courage; all things that define an epic hero and all qualities that Beowulf possess. His first major battle is with the Monster Grendel who has terrorized the Danes and their meat hall “Herot”. Beowulf uses no armor or sword to battle, but yet he uses his strength and intelligence to defeat Grendel. This type of superhuman strength is also found in his battle with Grendel's mother. Beowulf’s brave deeds have certainly helped others and were not for just his personal gain. Grendel was terrorizing the Dane king Hrothgar and his people. Beowulf defeated Grendel for them and they rewarded him with treasure. After Grendel the Danes told the legend of his mother who was the source of evil in the land. Beowulf, being the brave warrior that he is, wishes to go and rid the land of Grendel's Mother for the Danes, and he does. The final battle between the hero, Beowulf, and the great Dragon was for Beowulf’s people. As a last act of brave deeds he goes to fight the great beast and ultimately kills it, gaining the massive amount of gold that the Dragon
