Benjamin Rush was a member of the Continental Congress and signer of the Declaration of Independence, Rush founded Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Benjamin Rush also became active in the colonies' struggle for independence and was a civic leader for Philadelphia as well as many other accomplishments.
Childhood:
Benjamin Rush was born on January 4, 1746 in Byberry Township, Pennsylvania. He was a very sophisticated kid and was very interested in school. He always was an A student and was interested in being a doctor. That is what he wanted to be when he grew up and he made that dream come true. Benjamin was the fourth of seven children. Rush’s mom used him a lot to show the other siblings what to act like up until rush’s father died when he was six.
