Auschwitz, a concentration camp located in an area of Poland named Selvia, was composed of three camps with horrid living conditions and was liberated on January 27, 1945 with almost 7,000 prisoners freed (“Auschwitz”). Auschwitz I, located near the city of Oswiecim, finished construction on April of 1940 at an abandoned army base and was the main camp. It was used to kill enemies and forced the prisoners for production and construction; any that refused to work or seemed like a threat to the authorities were killed. Auschwitz II, or Auschwitz Birkenau, was located close to the city of Brzezinka and was made in October of 1941.
