This novel teaches the essences of core values and staying true to your morals. The greatest example in the story is Nnamdi who believes in staying true to himself. Evidence to this is when he refuses to kill Laura or when he had no shame in helping and caring for lost pregnant unmarried women, whereas others in the village cursed the women and called her names, because he believes in his moral of loving everyone. He very much relates to Atticus Finch from the classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Where Atticus very similarly didn’t care what others would say about fighting for a black man, because he believed in justice and fighting for the right thing, believing in truth (his moral). It’s iconic how both characters are the same inside the house and outside on the streets. Why is that, women are often given the lower hand in anything compared to men. In the story Amina was forcefully deported from her village due to being pregnant before marriage. She was the only one disrespected when the opposite sex shared half the responsibility. An article written by Clarissa-Jan Lim in A -Plus (company based in New York) showed millions of women from Nigeria facing sexism. Examples “A child’s Failure is the mother’s shame but the child’s success is the father’s pride”. (Damolai) or when you see a girl and the boy come out of a room (unmarried), the boy is cheered on whereas the girl is labelled as prostitute. People often over shadow the boy in
