What Is Attendance Policy Essay

The attendance policy should have some type of limit towards it. Being a college student you will have emergencies, death in the family, and doctors’ appointments which it will affect your school attendance. The SACS Members should be a little more lenient on college student’s attendance, because they’re human beings and should understand that they’ve had unexpected situations to come up in their lives. We as students shouldn’t have such a strict attendance. We as students should not allow this to go on when there is something we can do about the attendance policy. There will be unexpected things to happen in our lives which we can’t control. There could be death in the family which it forces us to take a couple of days out of school. If …show more content…
Attendance is known to help us be responsible in life instead of acting irresponsible like our high school days. My opponent may also say that we that being lenient on attendance may cause consequences for students, and a bad reputation for the school itself. Students may start to lack in their school work with a lenient attendant policy, and the absentees will continue to increase. Classes would be dismissed earlier than usual, and maybe even teacher will barely show up for class, because of the many absent of students who continue to not show up. Teacher may even start to make attendance a part of their daily grades. It will get so bad that will be like high school days, and students will want to make up for their absentees for the load of homework in which they …show more content…
There should be a number limit of absences for all students especially the ones who take session classes and fast track classes. This will still allow the students to show responsibility as young adults growing up in life. There is no way possible we as students will be able to attend school every day without no hesitation. Things will happen where we have no control over them, and we can’t just say “well there is no way to miss a day of school”. Even if someone tells us to save our days there aren’t really much days to, because those few days will be used in a matter of no time. There was a girl this girl in my class who told some of the students that she had to go home, because her child was sick and the next day she went back to school she was informed that she was dropped out of one of her class. She’s in fast track classes which only allowed her three absences, and nine times out of ten the other two absences has an excuse for the reason of her absence. This is what happens to students when unexpected things pop up which is out of our control and we can’t help that things happen in life. As it was stated in the first paragraph that the SACS member can handle any emergency of their which is not fair to us as students. We have a life just as they do, and we’re human beings with need just as they so why is it different when they need handle their emergencies and when we have to handle ours? There is nothing

Students attending college are now exposed to the real world of being responsible for their attendance in classes. College life is more diverse than high school, because students now have the ability to make their own life choices and College students have more freedom than high school students do. Being able to take the classes they want, need, and also paying for their own courses. College students have to be committed to do well in their classes, but also have their own decision making if they want to be present to class or not. Now that students know they have all the freedom they want, some students think they don’t necessarily have to show up to class since they are paying for it. In the article “The Tardy Student” a Professor over…

Whether you go to a university or a community college, you will likely find yourself encountered with the troubles of campus parking. Some campuses have policies that are stricter than others. If you are a student at Mississippi State University, you might consider their parking policies to be absurd. I am currently attending my freshman year at Mississippi State University and I must say that the only complication that I have had is with the parking policies. During registration, students are required to obtain a parking permit to legally park on campus. Some students tend to find that the fee for a parking permit is too expensive for college students’ budget. Many teachers agree that it is too costly for them…

Many students do not want to participate or can not because they are so sleep deprived. School start times being later in the day would cause students to stop being so tired and students would be more willing to participate in class discussions. Later school start times will lead to less missed school, in Bonneville, school attendance increased by fifteen percent. Also it will cost less when schools attendance goes up. If attendance increases by one percent district wide, forty million dollars, per year, will be gained for the school (Lewis). Schools that have financial troubles will benefit the most from a heightened attendance. The majority of schools start before 8:30 a.m. which is an hour and a half before the adolescent's brain is fully aware. When schools start that early, it causes students to want to sleep in and not go to school, decreasing attendance. A startling statistic shows, “In more than 40 states, at least seventy percent of public schools start earlier than 8:30 a.m.” (Backgrounder). In the statistic from Backgrounder says, “at least seventy five percent”, the actual number is eighty three percent (Hafner). Considering that eighty three percent of schools start before 8:30 a.m. and the average GPA is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, a B- average. The average GPA to for college bound students is 3.5-4.0. Education is a very important…

Should schools give in to the demand of later school days? Is it really for the benefit of the students, or benefits of their health? The answer is most students who “struggle” to get up want to put off school for as long as possible, or because they really want to stay up and reach that high score they’ve been yearning. While starting schools later in the day can provide the ability of not being late, it can cause many more problems, to the schedule you’ve been used to, than you think. Later start times gives in to what the students want and not what they need. Schools should not start later; if schools begin schedules later in the day transportation becomes a taxing challenge, it’s not a problem for everyone, and lives after school are interfered,.…

For some students, they use excuses to get out of class and others have poor time management to do their assignments or studies. Like forgetfulness, parking struggles, and illness, are the most common excuses that professors hear from the students who are late, miss deadlines, or are absent from the class. (Kichigina) Basically, the author is trying to say that the professors heard all types access so they don 't go easy on anyone. The most used excused is the illness one whether they are telling the truth or not. So the teachers make it fair because they give students 3-6 absent days with no excuse nut yet again some students make some odd excuse to get out of some sort of penalty. (Kichigina) So it’s better to just go to class and not miss anything important for that subject so the…

Finding new ways to persuade students to be present to class is vital for the administration. Eliminating one day per week could be enough to motivate the students to attend class more frequently. As a consequence to this solution, the attendance policy would be more strict, fewer days would be allowed to miss, and classes would be longer. Every class Monday-Thursday would be an hour and thirty minutes long, instead of having fifty minute classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and an hour and a half classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Nevertheless, with a four-day school week, students would be able to fit more activities in on their three day break for friends and family, relaxation, and job responsibilities. More available time allowed on the weekends would reduce the time that students miss during school throughout the…
