The Finch’s live with negro help, Calpurnia. The Finch children being around a black person everyday teaches them not to treat colored people any differently than white people. Also during the trial, both Jem and Scout wonder why doesn’t the jury believe Tom Robinson’s side of the story. Both Jem and Scout have a lot sympathy for Tom. Jem even cries after the jury reads the verdict of Tom being indicted. From these actions of Jem and Scout, I know that Atticus must be an anti-racist.
While Atticus is an anti-racist, Mr.Link Deas is a non-racist. Mr.Link Deas speaks for Tom, and gives Helen Robinson, Tom’s widow, a job, but he does not stand against racism. For an example he tells Atticus he has “everything to lose” from defending Tom. Mr.Link Deas goes with the status quo. Mr.Link Deas was Tom Robinson’s white employer of eight years. During the trial Mr.Link Deas yells out “That boy's worked for me eight years an' I ain't had a speck o'trouble outa him. Not a speck." He defends Tom because he knows he is a good man or “boy” as he states but does not stand up for all
