Since the article relates to black men in societies across the U.S; I feel culturally and ethnically connected to this article. As a black man, I am concerned for the safety of every citizen of our current societies, especially for the lives of my family and friends. I feel this way because police officers are assassinating unarmed black males in the streets. Similarly, I feel like justices is not being served by the unethical death of these black men. I feel this way because most often, the officers in this case tend to get away with murder rather than being punished for their actions. These are violations of his constitutional rights and further highlight the social injustice that blacks experienced and continue to experience today. Today, we see how blacks are not fairly protected by the law, while numerous white men have not been convicted after killing black men. This case shows that this has been a problem in our society for a long time and that as many of us know this is nothing new. I think that statistical analysis would be extremely beneficial in court cases like these because it would help ensure everyone has equal protection under the law. When dealing with controversial cases it is key to review the facts and…

The murder of African American men by their fellow African Americans does not get the attention it deserves from the rest of the society in the United States since it is viewed as part of gang-related issues that are inevitable. The association of African Americans with violent gangs makes it impossible for people from other races to take the concerns of African Americans, in relation to homicide and conduct of law enforcers,…

There is a one in three chance that a black man in America will be incarcerated during his lifetime. Given the recent decision by a grand jury not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the death of 18 year-old Michael Brown, I decided to research some of the most common racial issues found in law enforcement. In this paper I will argue that our system of law enforcement and criminal justice is systemically racialized and disproportionately targets and disadvantages black men. The racism found within law enforcement is a result of continued racism throughout our society. Michael Brown’s case is useful in exposing these injustices, and hopefully the Ferguson decision will spark concrete change in our views of race and our system of law enforcement…

In society today there are several events that are taken seriously by the community, the government and the people. I am going to talk about how the “law enforcement” is handling African American males in regular/irregular situations. In beautiful Baltimore, Maryland on April 19, 2015 a 25-year-old black man died in police custody one week after being arrested. Freddie Gray’s death was ruled to be a homicide and the six officers who were involved had legal charges issued. The charges were not high enough for the people to be satisfied and this caused several protests following his funeral.…

Before I set out on my journey of acquiring more information about systemic racism prevalent in our nation today, I often fell into the trap of not believing racism existed today since the actions I associated with racism, like the backlash to the Civil Rights Movement in the ‘60s, did not occur anymore, to my limited knowledge. It wasn’t until the shootings of Trayvon Martin and later, Michael Brown that I began to seriously consider the topic of race in America. I can admit that I had a lot of push back in my mind to the idea of police brutality and profiling of people of color, in particular, African-American men. I used to strictly abide by societal rules, so if someone broke the law or was up to nefarious activities, then they deserved to be punished. But the concept of killing a person who was unarmed really forced me to reevaluate my beliefs over race and racism.…

In the field of social work, we are faced with ethical dilemmas, more often than not. These dilemmas can come from conflicts with certain social work ethics and standards such as the right to self-determination, dual relationships, or confidentiality. A social worker can even face an ethical dilemma from a conflict of morals and values that they may have with their client. I will be examining an ethical dilemma that intersects both morals and values and confidentiality. Let’s say for example a social worker has an 18 year old client who is pregnant, still living with their parents and seeking an abortion.…

The recent events below have led to a series of protests over the past year but recently in the media the public has been advocating for the rights of African Americans in America based off of the neglect of the justice system for these young black men. These situations were all against young black males that had absolutely no reason to be murdered as a means to a solution. As these three situations only stand as representations of the many black male to be victimized by the police system in America it also shows us that although we have made strides in race relations and equality we still have a very long and tiring journey to go to be fully accepted by our fellow counterpart. Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by a Chicago…
