Obstacles: A Career As A World Class Engineering

What’s an engineer? That first thing that comes to mind when I’m ask that question is someone “smart,” “solve problems,” or “a lot of math.” The truth is that engineering is all of that and more. To describe what an engineer does can be quite complicated because the field involves many areas. You can have mechanical, chemical, biomedical, electrical, and many others. Even if engineering is such a broad field, all these areas have something in common, solve problems. Engineers are those that use science and mathematical concepts along with common sense to solve problems or whatever needs the customer or company have. To become an engineer first we need to become a world class engineering student. A world class engineering student (WCES) is …show more content…
Making mistakes is what every human does but these students are able to take a lesson from them and improve to make sure to don’t make them again. They will not only look at their mistakes but also at their weaknesses. They will seek help when need and will not hesitate to implement every helpful advice they could receive. Asking for help and participation in class is essential to improve in these areas. Professors and fellow students are a great way to find advices and create great relationships. WCES will keep only those relationships that are healthy for their life as student by also as a professional engineer. Great relationships are the way to create a good study group. A study group is part of the college life. Groups are helpful; when you don’t understand something they can help each other. Study groups are just another way to acquire and essential ability, team work. Team work is how every engineer has to work with, not only with other engineers but other areas of the company. Another way to practice team work is in student organizations. These organizations are a great way to meet people or networking for future jobs and …show more content…
In all my classes I had a study group. These study groups will meet every weekend to review the material of the week. We will work on problems that were solved in class and also new problems from the book. It was really helpful for me because thanks to them I was able to understand material I did not get during class. I still need to improve in my team work abilities though. I feel sometimes like I am not giving anything to the group but this may be a secondary effect of my shyness. I was also able to join the SPE student organization this semester. It was really good to meet people that are in my same major and being able to learn from guest speaker what our industry is all
