“In contrast to an authoritative parent, Mark Rubin and Kelly Benjamin state, “…authoritarian parenting negatively predicts self-esteem and emotional well-being and positively predicts anxiety, depression, sense of inadequacy, symptomatic problems, risk to self and others, and suicidal ideation” (Rubin, Benjamin). Family members have a very important role in a child life. A sibling, if one is present, and a parent(s) are always around. If a child comes home and feels like they have no one to talk to, it forces them to hold everything all in. The age of the child makes a significant role as well.…
Everyone wants to do the right things in one way or another. Would you put yourself out in a situation to do it? By putting yourself out in the world it may cause a difference or start a reaction. Even when you believe it won’t have any change where you’re at, but it is something you must fulfill. You are supposed to risk everything to stand up for what you believe in, because that’s what your morals say is right.…
Authoritarian parenting: In this style of childrearing, children are required to shadow the strict instructions traditional by the parents. Failure to shadow such rules commonly consequences in punishment. Strict parents fail to clarify the thought behind these instructions. If requested to clarify, the parent might humbly answer, "Because I said so. " These parents have high weights, but are not approachable to their children.…
Every child around the world has rights in rearing, and developing. Everyone knows that anything that happens to a child will affect them either positively or negatively. In other words, children will grow and develop as they were reared since they are very sensitive creatures. According to "Everydaylife.com," there are four different types of child-rearing styles, which are, "Authoritarian" - according to Dr. Gwen Dewar, children raised in this style are expected to obey parents regardless of the situation, and negotiation and discussion are not tolerated. Children who are reared by this style have higher rates of anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.…
1. Many loving parents are described as being “overcontroling” or “overinvolved”. Where do such patterns of behavior come from? In most cases, I believe that parents who are described as being over controlling or overinvolved are trying to live out their life through their children’s’ life. In Suzanne’s case I think that her parents are trying to live there life through Suzanne that seems to benefit mostly her parents and If anything put a ton of weight on Suzanne’s shoulders.…
During adolescence people are capable of being greatly influenced by important people in their lives. For this reason the roles of parenting can be determining factors in their children's mental health as they are important role models (“Parenting” n. pg.). There are many different styles of parenting they including authoritarian, authoritative and permissive. Authoritarian parenting forces children to follow strict rules and manifest blind submission. They are often overprotective and discourage pro-social activity.…
Parent-child relationships are crucial in the social, spiritual, and mental development of children; therefore, it is the responsibility of the parents to equip the child with the tools needed to have successful relationships in the future. Children initially learn about relationships from their own families, providing a model from which they discover how to build relationships throughout their lives. Children who have a model of a healthy family relationship are more capable to form these relationships outside their families, with other children and adults. Modeling is a fundamental but often overlooked factor in a child's development. Often, parents focus on teaching verbally, ultimately forgetting the influence of their actions.…
Bowlby’s Theory and Mary Ainsworth John Bowlby is a psychoanalyst who was interested in how mental health or behavioural problems came to be, he attributed this to a person’s early childhood experience, and how they were raised. John Bowlby invented 4 names for different parenting methods, and explained how he believed these parents acted and how this affected the said child in later adulthood. Mary Ainsworth was a student of Bowlby who agreed with his views and developed a very praised and used procedure to discover the attachment style of the child, she called this her “strange situation” test, this test puts an infant in a room and records her reaction with their parent in the room, leaving the room, strangers coming in… They then analyse…
Being The Middle Child Having and older and younger sibling could be ups and downs. Most people think being a middle child is an advantage because, they have someone to look up to and someone to look up to them. Being the middle child has its advantages and disadvantages. A parents job is to help a child establish themselves so that they can navigate their own way in the world. If they don’t validate and mirror back a child’s feelings, thoughts, intuitions, and/or emotions then the child will literally have no sense of self. This is a basic need that has been withheld from the child. This falls under the category of what is oftentimes referred to as ‘toxic parenting.’…
It is an old clash that has been frolicked out for years in families worldwide and will continue to play out for many years to come. In most two parent families’ dad and mom each has their precise character that defines their parenting rules. Dad takes a habit of being messier, unorganized and rough. However, mom tends to gear towards neatness organization and safety.…
Primarily referred to as the Needs Theory, the main emphasis of Anne Roe’s theory of parent-child relationship is on the relationship between personality and one’s career choice. Based on Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs; Roe states that the occupational selection one makes is based upon individual differences in psychology, biology, and sociology. Different people have different desires where some desire to work with people, others choose to work alone. Roe believes that this desire to steer “toward” of “away” from people as a career choice is connected to interactions with caregivers. Roe also believes that need fulfilment can possibly become one of the strongest motivators in career selection.…
With an autocratic parenting style it is obvious that there is a parent and a child or one can look at it as an inferior and superior relationship. This has been found not to be as effective because there is no responsibility in these types of children. These children have no free choice in anything which can make it difficult for them especially when they are confronted with tough choices of their own. Permissive parenting is just as ineffective as autocratic parenting because of the children doing what they want when they want. There is no level of control and these children are also more inclined to experimenting with drugs, sex and alcohol.…

Should parents be held accountable for the actions of their children? Hearing about what is happening in schools all across the country, being a parent they should talk to their children more about the outcome of something bad happening, maybe not as many young teenagers would go partying, do drugs or bully someone to the point of death. Communicating with your child is probably the biggest outcome of how he or she acts. Teaching them to respect the feelings of others and having them vent their frustrations and anger are all within the parent’s realm of authority (Coconi). It is a parent’s responsibility to recognize their child’s behaviors and rectify them before an innocent or weaker child is hurt (Coconi).…
