Khaled Hosseini evokes emotions in The Kite Runner that make the reader so enveloped in a world with indescribable loyalty and brutal betrayal centered around a war-torn Afghanistan. The undeniable loyalty for Amir the protagonist from Hassan the servant.. One may never be able to live up to loyalty like that which ultimately kills the him. The brutal betrayal of Amir to his loyal half brother Hassan. Being a coward is what leaded to his ultimate regret and difficult journey. Two motherless boys who learn to crawl and walk side by side, show us an emotional journey.

Amir’s betrayal to Hassan by running away like a coward when Hassan was getting raped by Assef in 1975. It is understandable that he ran away because he was a scared twelve year old. But his actions he later regretted so much that he wanted to chase away his shame. And the only way to that to him at the time was to make Hassan leave. To accomplice that he framed Hassan by putting money and the watch Amir got from Baba under Hassan’s mattress. Keeping in mind of what Baba told him “when you kill a man, you steal a life, you steal his wife’s right a husband, rob his children right to a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth, When you cheat, you steal someone’s right to fairness.” To his utter surprise Hassan with his undeniable loyalty and love for Amir lies for the first time in his life and says that he did steal the money and watch. To his even more great disbelief Baba forgives Hassan, but Ali says they are still leaving. This makes Baba beg and cry to make them stay. Inevitably they still leave. Afterwards, if it's even possible he feels more regret due to his disloyalty displayed for Hassan’s undeniable loyalty. Amir’s brutal betrayal to Hassan was the hurdle in the Kite
