America’s gift to my generation. What does my generation get that many before us did not? One thing that we have that many before us did not receive is freedom. Long ago, many people were not allowed to speak whatever they wanted, or do whatever they wanted to do. Before the Civil War, many people were kept as slaves. Those people who were kept as slaves were forced to work hard labor, even if they did not want to do it. They were also treated poorly and were auctioned off as pieces of farm land. Slaves had no word in any conversation, and if they tried to express their opinions into a conversation, they would get beaten. Finally, after years of people risking their lives just so others can get what they earned, we gained our freedom. Today,
