Many people can relate to the situation of struggling to get over their own pain. But sometimes their case of pain gets so bad that it causes them to hurt someone else. In the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, it takes place on a planet called Venus, where it rains every second of the day and night. Margot, a recent arrival on Venus, remembers the bright sun, when her classmates couldn’t. The story suggests that when people can’t get over their own pain, they sometimes end up hurting others. The reader can observe this in short story, when the children are shown jealous of Margot, when the rain makes them desperate, and shows the perspective of Margot going through so much pain, she ends up hurting herself rather than purposely hurting the children.
In the beginning of the short story, it show’s the children’s pain being caused by jealousy. They are jealous of Margot, because she has seen the sun before, and they have not. She, on the other hand, only made her problems so much worse because she isolated herself from the rest of the group instead of talking to them. By being isolated from the crowd, Margot only made her experience more pain than she was already
