In the beginning of the short story, it show’s the children’s pain being caused by jealousy. They are jealous of Margot, because she has seen the sun before, and they have not. This is what all of the children from the short story has shown. They showed the cause of their pain was because they were jealous of Margot’s memory of the sun. The dreadful rain made the children’s pain much worse, because it made them so desperate to see the sun that they couldn’t control their anger and frustration so they ended up bullying Margot. She, on the other hand, only made her problems so much worse because she isolated herself from the rest of the group instead of talking to them. By being isolated from the crowd, Margot only made her experience more pain than she was already
