Alice in Quantumland In "Alice in Quantumland", Alice is sent into an entirely different world. It is so small it is even smaller than an atom. Its attractions perform a different outlook of Quantum theory. In this book Gilmore takes the Uncertainty Principle, the Pauli Principle, wave functions, and other concepts and comes up with a way to explain them in an easier way. This way the reader can comprehend it better. In this book the Quantumland, where alice travels, is more like a theme park where she is the observer. Alice behaves,as you could say, like some type of particle with varying electric charges. There she meets the Classical Mechanic and the Quantum Mechanis,

A large portion of the book Alice in Quantumland tries to help Alice make sense of wave interference. The Classical Mechanic leads Alice to a place referred to as the gedanken room, meaning the thinking room. In said room, anything that one thinks appears as substance, making it possible to perform quantum experiments. The Classical Mechanical then proceeds to explain interference by a simple definition to Alice. “Interference is something that happens with waves.…

Dillard's grasp of this point is particularly keen, for whereas the previous work of Einstein and his colleagues had told us that we had probably been wrong about most of our previous assumptions concerning the basic nature of the universe, Heisenberg gave us the startling news that, in a sense, we could never again be "right." Heisenberg's finding is also called the "uncertainty principle". Dillard explains, “Says in effect that you cannot know both a particle's position and its velocity. You can guess statistically what any batch of electrons might do, but you cannot predict the career of anyone particle. They seem to be as free as dragonflies.…

This demonstrates the section of quantum mechanics called complementarity. Complementarity is when a photon can behave in multiple ways at once, existing as both a wave and a particle simultaneously even though it should be impossible. The theory of complementarity was discovered by Niels Bohr in 1927, when he combined the ideologies of Heisenberg’s particle-based quantum mechanics with Erwin Schrodinger’s more wave-based approach…

She works for a physics magazine at the University of Iowa as a managing editor. The job doesn’t consist of anything to do with physics besides organization of the articles discussing the subject, but in the time she worked for the magazine, Beard made many friends who are experts in the field.…
